چکیده

Granular reasoning proposed by Murai et al. is a mechanism for reasoning using granular computing, and the concept of “focus” has been proposed as a key concept of granular reasoning. On the other hand, the authors have proposed another concept of granularity, called “visibility”. In this paper, we try to capture the concepts of visibility and focus as modalities of modal logics by introducing Scott-Montague models that illustrate the visibility and focus by modal operators, respectively.

AGM Belief Revision in Monotone Modal Logics

Classical modal logics, based on the neighborhood semantics of Scott and Montague, provide a generalization of the familiar normal systems based on Kripke semantics. This paper defines AGM revision operators on several first-order monotonic modal correspondents, where each first-order correspondence language is defined by Marc Pauly’s version of the van Benthem characterization theorem for mono...

Modal Characterization of Visibility and Focus

Granular computing, based on rough set theory [1, 2], provides the basis for a new computing paradigm [3, 4]. Applying granular computing to logical reasoning processes, we have proposed granular reasoning for connecting possible world semantics and granular computing [5], and developed a granular reasoning framework called a zooming reasoning system [6–8]. The key concept of zooming reasoning ...

A Note on Granular Reasoning and Semantics of FourValued Logics

Zooming reasoning systems is a mechanism for reasoning using granular computing. The key concept of the zooming reasoning system is focus, which represents sentences we use in the current step of reasoning. Murai et al. has proposed a three-valued valuation based on focus. On the other hand, the authors have proposed another concept of granularity, called visibility, and constructed a four-valu...

First-order classical modal logic: applications in logics of knowledge and probability

The paper focuses on extending to the first order case the semantical program for modalities first introduced by Dana Scott and Richard Montague. We focus on the study of neighborhood frames with constant domains and we offer a series of new completeness results for salient classical systems of first order modal logic. Among other results we show that it is possible to prove strong completeness...
